Aubrey Molefe – 2011 sponsorship
This is a very special story about a talented young boy that touched Emerald’s heart in every way….
At the end of 2010 Aubrey was in danger of not being able to continue his education at Pecanwood Primary School as the trust was unable to continue their bursary sponsorship for his schooling, this would have had a devastating effect not only on Aubrey’s education, but also on his promising future in sports. Aubrey was going to be denied the opportunity to continue his education, but Emerald came to the rescue by offering to sponsor his tuition fees, stationery, school uniform and extra-curricular activities for 2011.
Aubrey is now in Grade 5 and keeps in regular contact with us at Emerald. We follow Aubrey’s progress closely and are always interested to read about his efforts both in the classroom and on the sports field. |

Emerald is going Greener
Recently we have been taking steps towards a greener environment within Emerald. Here are some of the small things we already do:
- Purchasing stationery made from recycled products where possible;
- Using ‘Energy Saving’ light bulbs wherever possible throughout the offices;
- Turning off all lights when the offices are closed;
- Recycling all our scrap paper;
- Use of plants to help absorb indoor pollution;
- Providing staff with reusable crockery and cutlery;
- Use of filtered drinking water to reduce bottled water waste.

Footprints P.L.A.Y. (Participating in the Lives of Africa’s Youth) – September 2011
“Footprints provides children of different ages and races with a place of safety that they can call HOME. The purpose is to allow them to experience the love, care and security of family life, whilst at the same time being educated and taught various life skills.”
Emerald staff spent the day at Footprints getting our hands dirty and doing some much needed DIY jobs. These included treating the 12 wendy huts with wood treatment, and painting the exterior and ceiling of the newly-built baby room
A heartfelt thank you to each and every staff member for contribution your time and effort to such a worthy cause. |

Discovery 702 Walk the Talk – 24th July 2011
This was the year Emerald decided to get the staff and their families involved by joining in the fun at the 702 Walk the Talk, and making a difference to those charities associated with this worthy cause. Over and above it being rewarding, a lot of fun was had by the 49 staff, family and friends who participated! |

Mandela Day – 18 July 2011
“The Mandela Day campaign message was simple: Nelson Mandela gave 67 years of his life fighting for the rights of humanity.” All we were asked to do was give 67 minutes of our time, whether supporting our chosen charity or serving our local community – which Emerald can proudly say we did.
Emerald staff collected items in their personal capacity that was provided from the ‘wish list’ of our chosen charity, “The Lighthouse Baby Shelter”. Two volunteers from each department then went off to spend not only spend “67 minutes” with them, but donate everything that was collected to Eleanor and her team to assist with the daily running of this very special home for abandoned children.
